Hurricane Sandy Relief & Upcoming CE Class: ASD Weekly News

Nov 08, 2012

Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort

During such a troubling time, we have been inspired by the many examples of goodwill we have seen from our profession. FrontRunner Professional and BuryAChild.com are working together in New York to assist victims of the Hurricane with funerals. Dozens of funeral homes have come forward to offer aid, including our friends at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home in East Greenville, PA, Stevens Mortuary in Indianapolis, IN, Dimiceli & Sons Funeral Home in New York, NY, Frances P. Devine Funeral Home in Oyster Bay, NY, Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart, IN and Urban Funeral Home in Ambler, PA. These are just a few of the funeral homes that we know have stepped up to offer their assistance during this time.

ASD would like to extend a helping hand to our clients located in areas that were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Over the weekend, we delivered some supplies up to New York to our friend Paul Gerowiz at Sympathynet.com and our employees are keeping the ball of goodwill rolling by bringing in items for donation. We are trying to determine what funeral homes are in need of assistance and get the word out to others. If your funeral home was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy or if you know of a funeral home that was, please email jess.fowler@myASD.com. For more information, click here.

We thought you all might enjoy this article we found about how New Jersey funeral homes have handled the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. It shows how, despite the destruction Sandy left behind, funeral professionals know how to band together and help one another out in tough times

ASD Replaces UPS System

Our muscles are a little sore today. Yesterday, we carried in over 5000 lbs of batteries and equipment for a replacement UPS system slated to be installed in this quarter. The UPS system provides emergency power and protects us from unexpected power surges by supplying energy stored in a large back of batteries. Our current UPS system works fine. As with everything at ASD, we are always looking for the best solutions for the future.

ASD’s “Sensitive Save of the Week” Winner!

This week, our Training Specialist Karen handled a call for a funeral home in New York whose phone lines were down because of Hurricane Sandy. The caller needed someone to pick up her niece, an 8 month old infant, and was calling funeral homes in the area trying to get through to one that had not lost power. Karen assured the caller that while the funeral home’s phone lines were down, she had a working number for the director and could connect her to him right away. This immediately put the caller at ease who had been trying to get in touch with a funeral home for a long time. After gathering vital information, Karen successfully transferred the caller to the funeral director. Karen is this week’s “Sensitive Save of the Week” winner!”
