Favorite Pastime: Funeral Director Nicos Elias is the true definition of a modern day polymath-a person whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas. Outside of the funeral home, Nicos enjoys collecting antique funeral cars as well as playing the organ at church and weddings. He also volunteers for the local fire department. Nicos says that all of his hobbies are rooted in his strong desire to help others, which is also what led him to become a funeral director.

Nicos has been playing the organ at his church since 1980 and also performs about 15 weddings every year.

Antique funeral cars were a fascination of mine since I was a child and probably what got me interested in the funeral business. I appreciate them for their one-of-a-kind craftsmanship and the honorable duties they perform,” Nicos says. “Playing the organ was a childhood interest, it’s the ‘king of instruments’ and always was exciting for me. The fire department was a youthful interest. We had a station down the street where I grew up so I naturally got involved when I was old enough. It’s all part of helping people, along with funeral service.

Thank you to Nicos Elias for allowing us to feature you in our blog this month.
